We are Nu Alpha Kappa, a force that motivates! The dynasty began with a meeting that took place February 26, 1988 at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Fifteen good friends gathered, of which eleven would eventually become our Founding Fathers. These friends called themselves Nacos — a sometimes derisive term, but at its heart referring to those who give unselfishly and are friendly to all. This meeting would mark the beginning of a better academic, cultural, and social environment at Cal Poly.
The Nacos united to express their ideas and demonstrate they were part of Cal Poly. They were enthusiastic about starting a club to help Latino students overcome the culture shock experienced when arriving at a predominantly Anglo University. As time passed, each member’s excitement grew and in their quest to create structure to their ideas, they decided to form a fraternal cultural brotherhood.
Adapting the term Naco to the university fraternity system, the group officially became Nu Alpha Kappa Fraternity, or NAK for short. Although choosing to adopt the formalized structure of the fraternity system, NAK was — and remains — determined to distinguish itself from traditional “frats” by maintaining a commitment to the ideals of academic excellence, cultural knowledge, and true brotherhood.

We, Nu Alpha Kappa, seek to unite and involve all students in a more harmonious and brotherly atmosphere through academic, social and cultural means. There is a need to interface the various backgrounds that constitute the student body of our fraternal university chapter, in order to improve relations amongst all students and the community.

¡Somos Nu Alpha Kappa una fuerza que Motiva! La dinastia comenzo con una reunion que tomo lugar el 26 de febrero de 1988 en la Universidad Politécnica del Estado de California en San Luis Obispo. Quince amigos buenos se reunaron y finalmente fueron nuestros padres fundadores. En esta reunión se marco el comienzo de un mejor ambiente académico, cultural y social en Cal Poly.
Los Nacos se unieron para expresar sus ideas y demostrar que eran parte de la universidad. Ellos estaban entusiasmados por formar un club para ayudar a los estudiantes latinos a superar el choque cultural que experimentan al llegar a una universidad predominantemente anglosajona. Con el paso del tiempo, creció la emoción de cada miembro y en su búsqueda para crear un estructura de sus ideas, decidieron formar una hermandad culturales fraterno.
Se adapto Naco como el termino al sistema fraternal de la universidad, el grupo se convirtió oficialmente en la Fraternidad Nu Alpha Kappa, o NAK. Aunque se adopto la estructura formal del sistema de una fraternidad, NAK fue — y sigue siendo — decidido a distinguirse de las tradicionales “fraternidades” por mantener un compromiso con?los ideales de excelencia académica, conocimiento cultural, y la verdadera hermandad.

Nosotros, Nu Alpha Kappa, buscamos unir e involucrar a todos los estudiantes de una manera más armoniosa y un ambiente fraterno a través de medios académicos, sociales y culturales. Hay una necesidad de enfrentar los diversos antecedentes que constituyen el cuerpo estudiantil del capítulo fraterno de nuestra universidad , con el fin de mejorar las relaciones entre todos los estudiantes y la de la comunidad.
